PDC Online Training with various payment options
Our Permaculture Design Course provides in-depth training on permaculture principles and design, as well as hands-on experience with various permaculture techniques. PDC graduates receive an internationally recognized Permaculture Design Certificate. The training consists of 72 theoretical hours, combined with practical sessions. The instructors have significant design and teaching experience in the field of permaculture. The course provides a general idea of permaculture, its origins, principles, current issues and practical application. It provides knowledge in the field of ecology, soil science and water management, as well as methodological knowledge in the field of on-site analysis and evaluation, area survey, as well as food production systems based on perennial plants.
Who is the PDC training for?
For urban and rural nomads, people who want to do something, pathfinders, experts, people who are interested, those who strive for sustainability, nature lovers and small communities, so that we can get closer to the nature that lives within us through personal and community experiences.
What does the training provide?
The course places great emphasis on the theory of permaculture, and also reviews strategies and techniques that deepen the relationship between humans and the natural environment. The course provides basic permaculture design knowledge, which can be used to design sustainable systems that respond flexibly to changes, and living spaces suitable for food and energy services.
Mutual, cooperative learning
In the learning system used in the PDC training, we discover knowledge together. Everyone contributes, because we can learn something from everyone. We learn from each other, from the teachers and from our environment at the same time.
Permaculture is a design system that observes patterns in our environment and replicates them. Thus, in cooperation with nature, we create sustainable and regenerative habitats for both humans and other living creatures. With this approach, we establish mutually beneficial relationships between landscape, people and resources. Permaculture is based on three main ethical principles: take care of the Earth, take care of people, and distribute the produced surplus equitably.
The training covers both the spring and summer periods. Among the climatic conditions typical in Hungary, this interval is the most important period from the point of view of the formation of natural systems. As a result of the course, we will observe the changes in the natural environment with completely different eyes. Drawing strength from the dynamics of the student group, with the knowledge gained week by week, we will be able to build our own self-sustaining system.
2024 is the seventh year that Életfa Permakultúra has announced PDC training. Our community consists of more than three hundred trained permaculture designers and more than five hundred interested people who are committed to the regeneration of the environment.
We organized PDC training in Budapest, Keszthely, Tata and Szeged. We started practical workshops on introduction to permaculture (Tata, Úny, Vársonkolyos/Suncuius), stabilization of water systems, pond construction (Lendvadedes, Kunbábony, Ladánybene), garden design (Kunbábony CKA, Göllner Mária Regional Waldorf High School, Agostyán), regeneration of sandy areas (Ladánybene, Kunbábony), earthworks (Lendvadedes), eco-architecture (Agostyán), seed ball making, and so on. We held informative presentations in the field of urban permaculture, climate change, tree energy transactions and eco-architecture.
Our parent organization, Permaculture Resources Ireland, participates in various international projects, including ‘The Greening the Desert’ program led by Geoff Lawton, which turns a desert landscape in Jordan into a fertile garden. Other international projects include and creating food security for a village built for orphans in Ethiopia (Uryadi's Village), stabilizing dry areas in Portugal, as well as in Kenya. Within the framework of the Circle Wise project in Germany, our team held various teacher trainings, planted a school garden and an urban forest garden in Clonakilty, Ireland, and created food security for six families by stabilizing the water system in the French town of Le Creusot.
Our goal is to make our experience gained during our domestic and international permaculture projects available to as many people as possible in the Carpathian Basin.

Regenerative lifestyle with permaculture
Permaculture integrates landscape, resources and people by creating mutually beneficial, synergistic relationships. Based on the operation of natural ecological systems, it applies the principles of zero waste and closed-cycle systems. It approaches with a holistic approach and uses strategies and solutions that can be used equally well in rural and urban environments, on a small and large scale, in the organization of our individual lives, in the reconstruction of natural systems, in the creation of communities, or even in the reconstruction of social systems.
Permaculture establishes a definite ethical system that serves as a guideline for everyone who thinks responsibly about the future.
The three ethical principles of permaculture:
The essence of permaculture is cooperation with nature. We examine and design the systems according to their role, so we do not focus on achieving a high yield. We take into account the natural development processes of the systems, let them "ripen", we plan not only in space, but also in time.
The purpose of permaculture planning is to consciously create systems that are useful for humans and have natural diversity and resilience, that is, they successfully adapt to stress and are in dynamic balance with their environment.

Theory + Practice
Our first meeting will kick off with a meet and greet session, followed by a couple of fun exercises to give us an idea of what community means in permaculture.
We will then learn about the history of permaculture and go through what permaculture itself means. We will outline the ethical and philosophical foundations of permaculture. We will explain how the course is structured and what you can expect over the next few months.
Theory
In this session, we will learn about the key concepts and topics related to design. We slowly start to understand the key components - stability, diversity, stability, system, chaos, yield, resources, timeframe - of a strong, sustainable system. We will find out why we follow natural patterns and how natural systems improve resilience, stability, productivity and diversity. Finally, we will learn about the ethical principles of permaculture and how they are applied to key areas of design.
Theory
This time we will talk about how to observe and analyze the area, the components of the design and how to replicate natural systems in your own area. We will also learn how to make strong connections between these elements.
Theory + Practice
Zone '0' - Introduction to Patterns
We arrive in the space, connect with each other through group exercises. We will talk about external and internal patterns and gain insight into the Zone '0',. We will learn how inner regeneration is linked to outer action, the relationship between the "wild" and inner values. Finally, we will discuss the harmony of spirit, soul and body.
Theory
Patterns are created by different media such as water and earth, air and water and so on. when different media - water and earth, air and water, etc. - meet. In fact, they are physical imprints of processes in nature. Understanding the basic patterns in nature provides us with a valuable tool. In this class we will explore methods of observing and mapping patterns.
Theory
This week we will focus on weather systems. In order to create maps, first we need to know our location on Earth. Understanding the different climatic influences in our own area will greatly help us develop the desired microclimate. This knowledge will help us to adapt to climate change.
Theory + Practice
Today we will learn about the different stages of design. We will talk about what the area is "telling us", define the purpose of the plan, get oriented, learn the elements of the plan and draw a base map. We develop our planning strategy, define sectors and zones.
Theory
Trees are key players in ecosystems. They influence the climate by affecting water flow, wind, heat and light. They build soil and provide habitat for a wide range of organisms. This week we seek to understand how these amazing creatures are connected to the rest of the ecosystem.
Theory
Water connects everything. In this session, we will explore the global cycle of water, how it impacts our design system, and specific strategies to retain and use water.
Theory + Practice
Today, we will learn about different techniques to slow down and retain water, as well as methods to improve water quality.
Theory
Soil is a key resource. We will learn how to regenerate soil and develop healthy nutrient systems. We will talk about techniques to increase soil fertility, such as compost extraction, bio-nutrient solutions and mulching.
Theory
This week, we will review the characteristics of humid-continental climates - the vegetation cover, temperature and precipitation characteristics, the soil, and so on. We will look at different ways to harvest water and build energy-efficient homes. Finally, we discuss the cropping and livestock systems that work best in this climate.
Theory + Practice
We will look at a wide range of earthworks tools and techniques. We will learn how to resurface the land, reduce erosion and re-vegetate the landscape on both small and large scales.
Theory
We will learn the characteristics of humid tropics and drylands, their soil types, methods of earthworks, construction and food production in these climate zones.
Theory
Aquaculture consists of such highly productive crop and livestock systems that - in addition to high yields - can regenerate the living environment. In permaculture, aquaculture naturally provides for oxygenation, heating/cooling and nutrient flow. This session will focus on the benefits and design of aquaculture systems.
Theory + Practice
Today we will investigate how water supports wildlife. We will also learn about the practical application of aquaculture systems.
Theory
This week is all about the social aspects of permaculture - how we can create local communities and partnership to move towards sustainability, towards an ecological paradigm shift. We also talk about strategies for alternative communities.
Theory ? Practice?
Our last week will be about the social aspects of permaculture - how we can create local communities and collaborations to move towards sustainability, towards an ecological paradigm shift. We will learn the essence of connection, the importance of team building. The exercise will review what we have done so far, where we are now and where we can go together.

Our motto comes from Sir David Attemborough: "If we take care of nature, nature will take care of us."
This approach is implemented in 4 different ways in our everyday life:
1. We specialize in native trees, shrubs and herbaceous, wild plants.
2. We have created detailed descriptions for all our products to educate the public about the characteristics and usefulness of wild plants. We thrive to raise awareness about these species.
3. We have created a forest garden on our farm, where you can gain an insight into the benefits of our plants.
4. Since we completed the Permaculture Design Course in 2021, more and more people have approached us to design their gardens in a biodiverse way.
This is how we try to take care of nature
Community Builder
Permaculture... my system, your system, our system.
Permaculture for me is the solution in this messy world, it multiplies the power of community and provides structure to get things done. Saving the world with practical tools and with collaboration with nature. It is also an exciting journey, a lifetime of discovery full of good intentions.
Conservation Engineer
Veronika fell in love with forestry though her father's forest nursery, founded in 1991. In 2012, she decided to join the family business. Her father was one of the pioneering growers and has been producing bare root plants since 2007. Since then - apart from a couple of breaks - forestry has been an integral part of her life. Year of 2022 brought a new perspective to her life, and the team of ELetfa Permakultura is grateful to her for enriching the PDC course with her personality and knowledge. Her workshop gives an insight into how diverse and varied nature is.
I started my career as an online marketing expert 15 years ago. During this time I managed and mentored teams of up to 28 people – my goal has always been to motivate and promote personal growth while ensuring the well-being of all team members.
Recognising that my mission in life was to realise greater goals than just achieving larger business numbers, I chose to take a different path in life and left the business world behind and began volunteering in ecological projects in Central and Latin America.
Having planted over 8,000 trees on 50,000 sq. kilometres of land, I am now happily acquainted with a large network of new green friends throughout the world. During this time I have studied numerous alternative regenerative solutions. Having spent thousands of hours of listening to and in dialogue with friends across the world; Permaculture, reforestation, holistic ecology, regenerative market communities, syntropic agro-forestry and natural medicine solutions have become an integral part of my way of thinking. My main goal in life is to act as a catalyst to promote and implement regenerative projects that care for the wellbeing of the soil, people and communities.
